There is a difference between true masculinity and a social mask of masculinity. The mask includes that a man behave in a manner that societal pressure has placed on him, based on the collective definition of masculinity. The collective definition has set most of us up to fail. It expects us to be someone that many of us clearly aren't.
I spent most of my life thinking I had to live up to that collective definition and I ALWAYS felt like a failure.
